چکیده

A field experiment was conducted during 4 consecutive years (2015–16 to 2018–19) at Agricultural Research Station, Ummedganj, Kota, Rajasthan study the performance of diversified cropping sequences for productivity, profitability and land-use efficiency under south-eastern Rajasthan. The comprised 10 in a randomized block design with 3 replications. Maximum soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] equivalent yield (8,507 kg/ha), production (31.16 kg/ha/day) relative (79.85%) were obtained fodder sorghum [Sorghum bicolor Moench]–bitter guard [Momordica charantia (L.)] (low tunnel) sequence. maximum (86.51%) observed direct-seeded rice [Oryza sativa (short duration)-desi wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)–summer greengram [Vigna radiata R. Wilczek] sequence followed by short duration soybean-Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.)]–cowpea unguiculata Walp.] (vegetable + fodder) (81.85%) sweet corn [Zea mays (L.)]–field pea (Pisum sativum var. arvenses Poir.)–onion [Allium cepa (transplanted) (81.03%) crop sequences. significantly higher net returns (`163,240/ha) economic (46.64%) fetched blackgram mungo Hepper] (broad bed) (furrow)–vegetable coriander [Coriandrum (furrow)-spring greengram. next best treatment corn–field pea–onion (transplanted), closely quality protein maize (raised bed)–fennel [Foeniculum vulgare tune 39.23 36.69% over existing system, respectively. benefit: cost ratio (2.55) sequence, being par (2.52). Highest (`612/ha/day) recorded duration) red gram [Cajanus cajan Millsp.] (2:1 row)–oat [Avena fodder–summer direct seeded (furrow)– vegetable spring (`594/ha/day) (`590/ha/day). Directseeded (long duration)–berseem [Trifolium alexandrinum (fodder) had lowest soybean-equivalent (4,546 (16.79 kg/ha/day), (– 3.89%), (`348/ha/day) (–15.43%). Thus, it can be concluded that (furrow)-vegetable bed)-leafy found more productive remunerative pea-onion –fennel as better land use compared soybean-wheat system Rajasthan, India.

Crop and varietal diversification of rainfed rice based cropping systems for higher productivity and profitability in Eastern India

Rice-rice system and rice fallows are no longer productive in Southeast Asia. Crop and varietal diversification of the rice based cropping systems may improve the productivity and profitability of the systems. Diversification is also a viable option to mitigate the risk of climate change. In Eastern India, farmers cultivate rice during rainy season (June-September) and land leftovers fallow aft...

Enhancing economic water productivity under on farm reservoirs in diversified rainfed cropping systems

A long term study was done to assess the impact of on farm reservoirs (OFR) on oil seedand cereal based cropping systems with vegetables (okra, tomato and carrot) in semi-aridalfisol of southern Telangana region. Two supplemental irrigation (SI) depths (30 and 50 mm)from OFR with raingun system were studied for assessing the water productivity andprofitability of the technology in these croppin...

Yield performance and land-use efficiency of barley and faba bean mixed cropping in Ethiopian highlands

Mixed intercropping of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with faba bean (Vicia faba L.) was compared with sole cropping for three growing seasons 2001–2003) at Holetta Agricultural Research Centre, in the central highlands of Ethiopia. The treatments were sole barley (125 kg ha−1), sole aba bean (200 kg ha−1) and an additive series of 12.5, 25, 37.5, 50 and 62.5% of the sole seed rate of faba bean mi...

Increasing Cropping System Diversity Balances Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health

Balancing productivity, profitability, and environmental health is a key challenge for agricultural sustainability. Most crop production systems in the United States are characterized by low species and management diversity, high use of fossil energy and agrichemicals, and large negative impacts on the environment. We hypothesized that cropping system diversification would promote ecosystem ser...
